PNG coach Lisa Cole has said Papua New Guinea owes the U20 Womens team the support they deserve for being put in a position to represent the country with little experience.
Coach Cole told Post Courier that that the players have the talent but it was a huge task for the team to be thrown on to the world stage with limited time and programming to prepare.
“This group of players and the group right behind them, have some talent, they just need programming that is going to bring out the best in them to continue,” Coach Cole said
She said the country owed them the support because they have braved themselves to take up the challenge to represent the country
“In fact I would say we owe them the support to improve their game. Putting them on the World Stage at this time, with limited support and programming is a huge asks of them and they have been brave enough to step out into the arena and compete for PNG anyways,” Cole said
She added that the country must continue to support them to really see the potential of the team and that history will also understand their plight
“To make sure we have a team fighting in this World Cup in the coming years the country needs to support them toady and afterwards to really see their potential. This is only the beginning, they are learning from this experience and I admire their bravery to represent their country. I hope that history will as well,” Cole said
