Papua New
Guinea U20 Womens team is being criticized by the public on social media but
coach cole has revealed that the team is improving.
She told
Post Courier that with adequate experience and time she knows the team can
improve,
“I am hopeful that we continue the current program for the next cycle to
the U20 World Cup. I have put in a legacy program for the team to progress into
the next leg of the U20 Qualifiers in Mid Aug of next year and I believe the
PNG Team is capable of beating New Zealand in the Oceania Football
Confederation (OF C) U20 qualifiers if given the opportunity to prepare
properly,” Cole said
She said the team is better off than it was when they went into camp in
February with the demands from the international level; they still need the
endurance and fitness.
“Improving our fitness and
physical strength was a huge task. The players are still not use to the
demands of the game at the international level. Getting the players to a
level of fitness where we

could at least stay on the field for 90 min was
an obstacle. And will need to continue to improve,”
She said that she had to contend
with the team’s downfalls but gradually the girls have taken on the challenge
of being a strong team.
“When I first got
into camp we had one player who could hit a ball over 20 yards in the air now
they all can but with different levels of proficiency.
“When I watch the game the team is
playing today vs. what we looked like even in May, I see a massive improvement.
From our shape, individual player’s ability and confidence, to
our organization on set pieces, everything has all
improved tremendously. We still have a long ways to goand I wish we had
more time and more games before getting out on the world’s biggest stage.
But we are committed to 3 things 1. To improve throughout the
Game 2. To give our best collectively
and individually 3. To fight till the end,” Cole said
