Stina Blackstenius from Sweden is a goal scoring talent that has graced Papua New Guinea shoes in the FIFA U20 Womens World Cup.
She scored four goals for the Sweden U20 Womens team against PNG on Wednesday 16th November 2016, after being left without opportunities in their first game on Sunday 13th November against Korea DPR when Sweden went down 2-0.
Her height and ability to do deep running and breaking away from backline defenders has made the 173m Swedish striker a perfect goal scoring asset for the Swedish team.
Her goal scoring exploits have seen her break the record for the 2015 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship goal scoring record, she scored twice, taking her tally to an incredible tally of 20 in ten games for the season – nobody had previously managed more than Elena Danilova's 17 set in 2005/06.
As a Sweden under-19 international, Blackstenius featured prominently at the 2015 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship. She finished as top goal scorer after hitting six goals for the victorious Swedish team, including two in the 3–1 final win over Spain.
Blackstenius made her debut for the senior Sweden team in a 1–0 UEFA Women's Euro 2017 qualifying win over Denmark on 27 October 2015, at Gamla Ullevi.
On 8 April 2016 she scored her first goal for the Swedish national senior team, scoring 3–0 as Sweden defeated Slovakia, 3–0, in Poprad during a qualifying game for the 2017 European Championship in the Netherlands.
She was named on the Swedish roster for the 2016 Summer Olympics, scoring as a substitute against the USA and in the gold medal match against Germany, where Sweden would go on to win the silver medal.
She was awarded the FIFA Live your goals player of the match for her performance against Papua New Guinea and was glad to say she had made use of her opportunities in the match.
“I am happy I scored four goals in the match, it’s good that we had capitalized on the opportunities, after we had no chances of scoring a goal in the first game against Korea DPR,”
Sweden coach Calle Barrling after the game against PNG was modest but praised his star player
. “Stina is excellent with her deep runs, and all teams need that kind of player to score goals,” said Barrling.
“As a coach I’m really really happy with how we coped better than last time. Our No10, Anna Anvegard, she creates space for Stina. There are many other players that make up this team.
“She can only improve she has played for the European Championship Cup finals, the Olympics and now the U20 Womens World Cup, and she is just 20 years old and every game she is looking to improve her performance,” Barrling said
